The University College of Norwegian Correctional Service (KRUS) is a resource centre for employees of the Correctional Services in Norway. KRUS’ main assignment is educating prison officers and workshop staff. Additionally, KRUS has its own research department and the centre also offers further education and courses aimed at the employees in the correctional services.
The University College of Norwegian Correctional Service is organised with the following departments:
Director: Hans-Jørgen Brucker retired 1. July. From 1. September Kristina Lægreid will be constituted as director. Dean Kjersti Hove will be functioning as director this summer.
Department of studies:
Main focus: the department is responsible for the comprehensive two-year education required for all Norwegian prison officers, as well as educating staff for the prison workshops. The education is research- and experience-based and requires close collaboration between the department and the training prisons.

Department of further education:
Main focus: to develop and offer further training and courses of high quality, ensuring a basis for good human resources development initiatives throughout the correctional service.

Research Department:
Main focus: to carry out research in areas such as corrections and the execution of sentences, and contribute towards research-based education.
Head of Research: Berit Johnsen
Department of administration:
Main focus: recruitment and vetting of prospective prison staff trainees. In addition, the department provides information and support to trainees, course participants, and visitors, as well as being responsible for health, safety and environment.
